Saturday 10th May

Picked up J-D from Heritage Narrowboats in Scholar Green.

Engine running hours: 634.6

Engine checks: Engine oil 3mm below maximum, aft gearbox 4mm above maximum, forward gearbox on maximum, slightly cloudy.

Set off just after 4pm.

Moored for the night at around 5pm at Congleton Wharf

Sunday 11th May

Wet day so we stayed in Congleton.

Monday 12th May

Engine running hours: 635.9

Engine oil 3mm below maximum.

Set off just after 8am.

Bosley bottom lock 10:20, top lock 12:40, and then it stopped raining!

We used the facilities and stopped for a wile before going on to Macclesfield. Moored for the night just north of bridge 37. Despite the bollards and a notice welcoming us to moor here it was not possible to get right up to the bank.

Tuesday 13th May

A damp morning and we visited the silk museums and charity shops.

Engine running hours: 642.0

Engine oil 1mm above minimum.

Set off in sunshine at 4:10pm. Went back to Freedom Boats, filled up with diesel (56.1l), bought 2 bags of homefire ovals and 4l blue.

Carried on along the canal and moored for the night north of bridge 26 north of Bollington.

Wednesday 14th May

Engine running hours: 643.9

Engine oil 1mm above minimum.

Enjoyed the sunny morning hanging about. Visited the café at Clarence Mill for elevenses.

Set off around 2:15pm.

Moored for the night north of bridge 8.

Thursday 15th May

Engine running hours: 646.2, engine oil 1mm above minimum.

Alternator belt seemed a bit loose so we tightened it.

Set off around 10:00

Spent the afternoon exploring New Mills, well worth it! Then carried on to moor for the night at Bugsworth Basin.

Friday 16th May

Engine running hours: 649.7, engine oil 1mm above minimum.

Used the services at Bugsworth and then set off to Whaley Bridge around 10am. Moored just before the winding hole in Whaley Bridge. Explored the town and in the afternoon we walked along a trail taking us some of the way along the old Cromford and High Peak Railway.

Saturday 17th May

Cleaning up.

Engine running hours: 650.3, engine oil 1mm above minimum, topped up with approximately 1 pint (i.e. 1 400g chopped tomato tin) to 2mm below maximum.
